Caroline McCoy

Upper Level Math and Physics Tutor

About Me

Hello! My name is Caroline, and I absolutely love math and physics. I started studying them more in depth when I decided at the last minute to register for AP Physics in high school, and I ended up falling in love with it. I've always had a passion for education, and I am very excited to be in my field.I graduated in 2020 from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and a Minor in Music. I had an A average in both high school and college, and I am hoping to pursue a PhD in the near future; I am currently teaching physics in Greenville County Schools and pursuing alternative certification in Secondary Physics. My favorite subjects in my field are quantum mechanics and special relativity. In my free time, I'm quite the nerd! I learned how to play the guitar and piano from my dad, and I spent most of my minor in music as a member of the College of Charleston Concert Choir. I love comics and anime enough that I took Japanese classes and continue to study the language. I also like to do DIY projects and cosplay, so count me in whenever it's craft time!

Managed a classroom of approximately 20 high school students at a time while providing instruction for the subject of physics. Facilitated before and after school help for all physics courses, and volunteered to assist with extracurricular activities and events.

August 2021-August 2022, Physics Aide, Greenville County Schools

Assisted physics teachers in their classrooms as a supplementary instructional aide. Provided personalized help for students before and after school. Earned experience with classroom management while learning how to plan and teach a physics course.

August 2016-May 2020, Physics Tutor, College of Charleston Department of Physics and Astronomy

Privately tutored algebra and calculus based physics to peers, who found my contact information through the department. Employed as a TA for the semester of Fall 2019.

Research Experience

Summer 2020, Acoustic Musical Sound, College of Charleston

Unpaid experimental and computational research in acoustics and structures of sound waves, especially where it involves music, independently with Dr. Ana Oprisan as my advisor.

Spring 2019, Particle Physics, College of Charleston

Unpaid theoretical and computational research in multidimensional particle physics, alongside Dr. Gardner Marshall, Trey Anderson, and Logan Carabo.

Summer 2023, Mechanical Engineering for Materials Science, Clemson University

Paid computational research in the creation of simulations of C60 molecules under pressure at varying temperatures, alongside PhD Candidate Tanuj Gupta and advised by Dr. Huijuan “Jane” Zhao.

Price Information

Physics Tutoring

For high school students taking algebra and calculus based general physics, in common placement, honors, or AP courses, tutoring from me will be $50 an hour.
For college students taking advanced or specific topic physics courses, please contact me and we will negotiate a price, depending on the subject matter.

Math Tutoring

For middle, high school, and college students taking algebra I & II, geometry, college algebra, or precalculus, tutoring from me will be $45 an hour.
For any students taking introductory calculus, AP Calculus AB or BC, or calculus II and III, tutoring from me will be $50 an hour.
If there is another mathematics course that you would like tutoring in, please contact me and we will negotiate a price.

Group Tutoring Discounts

I offer discounts for students in the same subject who study in groups! I am a firm believer that studying together helps students soak in material, and sometimes doing your work together ensures your success in a class. For two students, the price is $40 an hour per student.
